We had simply too many great pictures to fit into our review of New York Comic Con 2017, so we decided to publish a separate article dedicated entirely to the photographs. New York Comic Con 2017 was the first Comic Con I had ever attended. While the sheer magnitude of the event was mind-blowing, it was the enthusiasm and creativity of the fans that really impressed me.
The people attending New York Comic Con 2017 were not just New Yorkers. They came from all around the world. I spoke with visitors from Germany, France, Australia, and countless places across the United States. Many of those who traveled to New York planned to spend an entire week exploring the city before or after attending Comic Con.
Attending a Comic Con can quickly become addictive. Before I even left the Javits Center, I found myself searching online to see where the next Comic Con would be held, fully prepared to book a train or plane ticket for another adventure.
The Incredible Cosplay of New York Comic Con 2017
When I told friends I was attending New York Comic Con, many immediately asked if I planned to wear a costume. Honestly, I hadn’t given it much thought. What I witnessed on Sunday, October 8, 2017, inside the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was thousands of fans dressed in some of the most imaginative costumes I had ever seen.
Comic book heroes, movie villains, television characters, anime favorites, science fiction legends, and completely original creations filled every hallway. What impressed me most was learning how many attendees had designed and built their costumes themselves, investing countless hours creating works of wearable art.
The interaction between costumed fans became an attraction in itself. Once people stepped through the convention entrance, all inhibitions disappeared. Everyone seemed eager to discuss the inspiration behind their costumes, exchange ideas, and happily stop to pose for photographs. It created an atmosphere unlike any other event I have ever attended.
